Lesson 5 of 5 · about 5 min
Labeling AI content and avoiding misleading uses
When you finish, you can label AI-made work clearly and avoid uses that mislead.
Stuck? Ask the AI tutorWhy label
Readers and viewers deserve to know when something is generated. A clear label protects trust, helps others understand what is real, and keeps you safe if your image is shared widely. Some platforms and countries have rules or tools for labeling, so check current guidance.
A label can be short: "Image created with AI." Place it where people will see it, such as a caption or description, not hidden in fine print.
When a picture could mislead
A picture of an event that never happened, a fake product photo, a made-up testimonial or a pretend news clip can mislead people even if you meant no harm. The more realistic and the more serious the topic, the stronger the need for a label or a different approach.
Ask three questions: What will viewers think this shows? Could someone make a decision based on it? Could it hurt someone if they believed it? If the answers worry you, change the plan.
Honest uses that work well
Many uses are clearly fine: illustrations for blog posts, concept art, storyboards, social media graphics, background music, fixing audio, drafting captions. Label them where it matters, credit the tool when asked, and keep real evidence real.
Weak: AI portraits presented as real customers. Strong: stylized illustrations labeled as such, plus real photos where you promise to show real results.
A worked example
Ines, who sells handmade candles in Porto, uses AI to make seasonal banner art. She labels the banner "Illustration made with AI" and uses her real product photos for the shop pages. Customers get what they see.
Her small label cost nothing and earned trust. Tell the truth about what is made and what is real.
Practice now
- Write a short standard AI label you will use for your own content, in two or three phrasings for different places.
- Find a recent AI image or video online. Write down what a viewer might wrongly believe from it and how a label could help.
Use any AI assistant you have. Do not paste private, client or patient information into it.
