Lesson 2 of 4 · about 5 min

Your first AI wins: 5 everyday tasks

When you finish, you can run five admin and education tasks with AI and check each.

Stuck? Ask the AI tutor

Win 1: Appointment and policy messages

Weak prompt: “Write a reminder.” Strong prompt: “Write a warm 70-word template reminding a client of an upcoming appointment and gently mentioning our 24-hour cancellation policy. Placeholders for name, date, time. Do not include any health information.”

Check for: a cold or scolding tone, claims that conflict with your actual policy, and any detail that reveals why the person is a client. Messages may be seen by others on a shared device.

Win 2: A general handout

Weak prompt: “Make a handout about depression.” Strong prompt: “Draft a one-page handout on simple ways to notice and name feelings, grade 7 level, warm tone, no diagnostic labels, no promises of results. Add a line that this is general information, not treatment.”

Check for: claims about cause or cure, advice that could be harmful to someone in crisis, and cultural assumptions. Review it as you would review a colleague’s draft before putting your name on it.

Win 3: Practice blog or website text

Weak prompt: “Write a blog about therapy.” Strong prompt: “Outline a 600-word post about what to expect in a first counseling session. Use headings. No claims about outcomes. Leave room for my own voice.”

Check for: ethics and advertising rules in your region. Many licensing boards limit testimonials and outcome claims. Make sure the post follows them. Add your own words so it sounds like you.

Win 4: Continuing education study

Weak prompt: “Teach me ethics.” Strong prompt: “Create 8 practice questions on informed consent in telehealth, with explanations. Remind me to check answers against my board’s rules.”

Check for: errors and region-specific differences. Rules vary by country and license. Treat the AI as a study partner, and confirm with your board, textbook or supervisor.

Win 5: Supervision and team agendas

Weak prompt: “Make a supervision agenda about my cases.” Strong prompt: “Create a 45-minute supervision agenda with sections for wins, challenges in general terms, ethics reflection and learning goals. No client details.”

Check for: whether it fits your supervision requirements. Add your own program’s forms. Keep case discussion in the supervision itself, not in the chatbot.

Practice now

  1. Pick one win. Write a weak and strong prompt, run both, and note the difference.
  2. Edit an AI-written handout until it sounds like you, and mark three phrases you removed.

Use any AI assistant you have. Do not paste private, client or patient information into it.

Check yourself

1. What should a general handout avoid?

2. Why is a reminder text risky?

3. How should you use AI for CE study?
