Grow with AI: your 30-day plan
When you finish, you can follow a month-long supervised practice plan and speak about AI skills honestly to clients and colleagues.
Stuck? Ask the AI tutorWhat gains value
Judgment, ethics, negotiation, courtroom skill, client trust, industry knowledge and the ability to check work quickly grow in value. So does the skill of designing a workflow: knowing which steps AI can draft and where a human review is non-negotiable.
Lawyers who can explain a complex matter simply, and who can show a client how their work is checked, stand out. Speed alone is not the point. Reliable speed is.
A four-week plan
Week one: read your firm's policy and your regulator's guidance, and map your tasks. Practice only with public or fictional material. Week two: run the same task three ways, by hand, with a weak prompt and with a strong prompt, and compare time and errors. Keep a mistake log.
Week three: build a personal prompt library with a verification step beside each prompt. Week four: with permission and an approved tool, run one low-risk real workflow, such as a first draft of a routine letter, and record the result. Share a one-page summary with a partner or supervisor.
Talking about your skills honestly
On a profile or resume, say what you did: “Built a review workflow for AI-assisted contract summaries with section-by-section verification.” Do not claim expertise in tools you barely used, and never suggest you can replace legal judgment.
In interviews, discuss a specific case where you caught an AI error and what process you built afterward. That story shows competence and caution, which is what clients and firms are looking for.
Conversations with clients and your firm
Clients may ask whether you use AI. A good answer is plain: you use approved tools for certain drafting support, you protect their information, and you personally review everything. If they object, respect that and explain what you can do instead.
Inside your firm, propose a pilot with defined limits and review. Offer to train others on verification, not just prompting. People will follow the lawyer who shows both benefits and discipline.
Practice now
- Write your own four-week plan with dates and one task per week.
- Draft a three-sentence answer you could give a client who asks, “Do you use AI on my case?”
Use any AI assistant you have. Do not paste private, client or patient information into it.
Check yourself

2. Which resume line is most credible?
3. How should you answer a client who asks about AI use?
Ask the AI tutor
Ask anything about this lesson, in any language. The tutor is an AI: it can be wrong, and it never needs your personal details.
