Lesson 4 of 5 · about 5 min
Measure time saved honestly
When you finish, you can run a small pilot and report results without hype.
Stuck? Ask the AI tutorCount the whole job
A common mistake is to count only the time AI takes to write. The real time also includes writing the request, checking the output, fixing errors and adding missing details. Honest measurement counts all of it.
If AI drafts in two minutes but you spend ten minutes correcting, the saving may be smaller than it looked. Sometimes AI saves time and sometimes it does not. Both are useful facts.
Simple pilot design
Pick one task. For a week or two, have two or three people time the task the usual way, then time it with AI including checking. Record how long, what changed, and any quality problems. Keep it light: a shared table with a few columns is enough.
Also record quality. Did customers or colleagues notice errors? Did the person feel less stressed? Time saved is one result; quality and confidence matter too.
Report plainly
In your summary, say what you tried, how many people, how long, the time saved including checking, problems found and what you recommend. Say what you do not know. Avoid precise-sounding claims you cannot support.
Weak report: "AI is saving us huge amounts of time." Strong report: "Three of us tried AI for meeting summaries over two weeks. Most summaries needed small edits. We saved time on long meetings but not on short ones."
A worked example
Sandra manages a clinic's front office in Toronto. She tests AI for drafting appointment reminder templates with no patient data. Her team times the work and finds that new templates are quicker, but each needs a check for tone and policy.
She reports an honest result to the practice manager: helpful for templates, not for anything involving patient details. Her honesty earns trust for the next step.
Practice now
- Choose one task and design a one-week timing table for yourself or a teammate, including checking time.
- Write a five-line honest summary of a small test, including one thing that did not work.
Use any AI assistant you have. Do not paste private, client or patient information into it.
Check yourself
1. What should time-saved measurements include?
2. What is a good way to report results?
3. Besides time, what else should you track?
Ask the AI tutor
Ask anything about this lesson, in any language. The tutor is an AI: it can be wrong, and it never needs your personal details.
