Lesson 2 of 4 · about 5 min
Your first AI wins: 5 everyday tasks
When you finish, you can run five low-risk pharmacy tasks with AI and check each result.
Stuck? Ask the AI tutorWin 1: A handover checklist
Weak prompt: “Make a checklist.” Strong prompt: “Create a 12-step end-of-shift handover checklist for a community pharmacy with check boxes. Include queue status, stock issues, fridge temperature log check and open follow-ups. Placeholders for our own steps.”
Check for: steps that do not match your law or SOP, and anything about cold-chain or controlled drugs that you did not supply. Adjust with your pharmacist-in-charge.
Win 2: A general storage or safety handout for review
Weak prompt: “Write about medicine safety.” Strong prompt: “Draft a half-page handout for adults on keeping medicines safely out of reach of children at home. Grade 6 level. No drug names or doses. End with ‘Ask your pharmacist about your own medicines.’”
Check for: any claim that sounds specific to a drug, advice that conflicts with local guidance and a reading level above your audience. The pharmacist reviews before it is shared.
Win 3: Summarizing a public notice
Weak prompt: “What’s this recall?” with only a headline. Strong prompt: “Here is the full text of a public notice. Summarize it in five bullets for pharmacy staff, listing the actions the notice asks for. Flag unclear parts.”
Check for: missed details such as lot numbers or dates. Always read the original notice. The summary helps you plan, but the notice is what you follow.
Win 4: Study quizzes
Weak prompt: “Teach me pharmacology.” Strong prompt: “Quiz me on pharmacy calculation basics at a technician-student level, one question at a time. Show the method for each answer. Remind me to confirm formulas in my textbook.”
Check for: arithmetic mistakes. AI can make calculation errors and present them confidently. Work each problem yourself first, then compare. Never use an AI result as a calculation for a real patient.
Win 5: Customer messages
Weak prompt: “Tell customers there is a delay.” Strong prompt: “Write a kind 60-word template telling customers a stock item is delayed, with placeholders for the item category and timeframe, and an invitation to call the pharmacy with questions.”
Check for: promises you cannot keep, medical advice, and names of drugs or people. Customers are often anxious about access to medicine, so a calm, clear tone matters.
Practice now
- Pick one win. Compare a weak and strong prompt in a free tool and note the difference.
- Ask an AI to solve a sample calculation, then solve it by hand and compare. Note any difference.
Use any AI assistant you have. Do not paste private, client or patient information into it.
Check yourself
1. Should AI results be used for a real patient dose calculation?
2. Why read the original notice instead of only the summary?
3. What does a good handout prompt include?
