Voice and everyday uses
When you finish, you can use voice for hands-free help and set up a few routines that save you time.
Stuck? Ask the AI tutorTalking instead of typing
Many versions of the app offer voice, so you can talk with ChatGPT and hear spoken replies. It is useful when your hands are busy, when you think better out loud, or when typing is hard. Availability and voices depend on your device, plan and region.
Speak as you would to a helpful colleague. Give the task and context in a few sentences. If you want a written result, ask for it: "Summarize what we covered in five bullets." Voice can mishear words, so check names and numbers in the text version.
Language practice and thinking aloud
Voice is good for practice. A learner in Mexico City can say, "Be my English conversation partner. Speak slowly. Correct my mistakes gently at the end of each turn." A jobseeker in Nigeria can rehearse an interview and ask for feedback on clarity.
You can also talk through a problem. Say what you are stuck on, then ask, "What am I not considering?" Treat the replies as ideas to test, not final answers. The aim is to help you think, not to think for you.
Everyday routines that work
Pick three small jobs you do often and make them routines. Examples: turning meeting notes into action items, writing a polite reply to a tricky message, and making a weekly meal plan from what is in your kitchen. Save the prompts that worked in a note, ready to paste.
Weak: "Meal plan." Strong: "Make a five-day dinner plan for two adults using rice, beans, eggs, spinach and tomatoes. Keep each recipe under thirty minutes and list anything I need to buy." Specifics make routines reusable.
Know when to stop using it
Some tasks are better done by you. If you are learning a skill, try first, then ask ChatGPT to review. If a message is deeply personal, write it yourself. If a decision has health, legal or money consequences, use it to prepare questions, then ask a qualified person.
Take breaks from the screen. A tool is helpful when it frees time and attention for people and for work that matters to you.
Practice now
- Use voice, if available, for a five-minute practice conversation on a topic you care about. Then ask for a written summary and check it.
- Write down three routine prompts you will reuse, with the details you will fill in each time.
Use any AI assistant you have. Do not paste private, client or patient information into it.
Check yourself
1. Why check names and numbers after a voice chat?
2. Which is the stronger request?
3. For a health or legal decision, a sensible use of ChatGPT is to
