How AI is changing the work of a marketing specialist

When you finish, you can sort your marketing tasks into what AI can draft, what AI can assist, and what stays human.

More content, same need for taste

AI can produce text and images in seconds, so the internet fills up with generic content. That changes the work. Anyone can now make a decent first draft. What stands out is a clear point of view, real knowledge of customers and an honest voice.

Some entry-level tasks, like writing basic product blurbs or resizing graphics, may take less human time. That is real. The roles that grow are those that set direction, understand people and check quality.

Tasks AI can draft or speed up

Brainstorming headlines and subject lines. Producing first drafts of emails, posts and ad variations. Repurposing one blog post into several formats. Summarizing customer interviews and reviews. Turning a spreadsheet of results into a plain-language summary. Building a content calendar draft.

In each case you are the editor and the owner of the brand. A draft from a tool will often sound like every other brand. Your job is to bring in the specific detail, humor, story or proof that makes it yours.

Tasks where AI assists and you decide

Choosing the campaign idea. Picking which audience to focus on. Judging whether a message is truthful and fair. Deciding which test to run next. AI can list options and play devil’s advocate, but it does not know your company’s limits, your budget, or the mood of the market this week.

Brand voice sits here as well. A tool can imitate the style you describe, but it cannot tell when a joke would hurt, or when silence is better than posting. That sense comes from knowing your audience.

Tasks that stay human, and where value grows

Original reporting and storytelling from real people. Building relationships with creators, partners and communities. Responding to a crisis with care. Making the call on a risky creative idea. Understanding what a customer really means. These carry the trust that a brand depends on.

Strategy, research, testing and quality control gain value. A marketer who can run a clean experiment, read results honestly and explain them to a team will be needed even as the drafting gets cheaper.

Practice now

  1. List ten tasks from your last campaign. Label each D (AI can draft), A (AI assists, I decide) or H (stays human). Ask an AI tool to challenge your labels.
  2. Pick one D task, such as subject lines. Give a free AI tool a clear brief and compare its options with your own. Which ones would you actually use?

Use any AI assistant you have. Do not paste private, client or patient information into it.

Check yourself

1. As AI makes content cheap, what stands out most?

2. Which task is best labeled 'AI assists, you decide'?

3. Which marketing skill is likely to grow in value as drafting gets cheap?
