Grow with AI: your 30-day plan

When you finish, you can follow a four-week plan and describe your AI skills honestly to a manager or new employer.

Skills that gain value

Asking good questions. Understanding a customer’s business. Explaining value in the buyer’s words. Negotiating fairly. Managing long, complex deals. Knowing when not to sell. Keeping customer trust over years. Using tools to free up time for these skills.

As automated outreach floods inboxes, a message from someone who has clearly done their homework and offers real help stands out. Reps who combine research quality with warmth are well placed.

Your four-week plan

Week one: use AI on public information to prepare for two calls, and compare with your usual preparation. Week two: write three outreach messages with the strong prompt, edit them to your voice and check consent rules. Week three: use call notes to produce two follow-ups and compare promises to what was said.

Week four: practice objections for ten minutes a day, and write your best honest answers in a personal playbook. Keep a short log of what the tool got wrong. Estimate your own time saved without made-up numbers.

Describing AI skills honestly

A good line: “Used AI tools with public information to prepare call briefs and draft follow-ups; checked every claim against approved product facts and customer notes.” This shows productivity and integrity.

Do not claim AI closed your deals. In interviews, tell a story where you caught a wrong claim or changed a cold message to be more honest. Managers hiring in sales want people who grow revenue without creating risk.

Talking to your manager

Ask for a small pilot: “I would like to use an approved tool for call prep from public sources and for follow-up drafts from my notes, with no customer data unless the tool is approved. I will review everything. Can we try it for a month?” Offer to share your prompts with the team.

Ask your manager about company rules on outreach, data and AI. If they do not exist yet, offer to help draft them. Sales leaders worry about quality and compliance, and you can be the person who helps solve it.

Practice now

  1. Write your own four-week plan with one task per week and a check for honesty.
  2. Write a thirty-second interview story about catching an AI mistake in a customer message.

Use any AI assistant you have. Do not paste private, client or patient information into it.

Check yourself

1. Which resume line would you be comfortable defending in an interview as a sales rep?

2. What is a good small pilot?

3. Which skill likely grows in value?

Ask the AI tutor
